Product Description

The waltz Erinnerung an Covent-Garden (Memory of Covent Garden) was written in summer of 1867 and premiered on 27 September 1867 in Covent Garden in London on the occasion of a concert tour by Johann Strauss to England. It is a homage to English folk music, for in all sections of the waltz Strauss took up English melodies and processed them. These include songs such as Champagne Charlie , The Flying Trapez and Home Sweet Home. The arrangement is one half tone higher than the original key of the composition for orchestra. Is was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their "Three Kings' Concert" on 6 January 2015 in the "Grosses Festspielhaus" (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria. A live recording of this concert is available at https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/wien-trifft-london/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/wien-trifft-london/hnum/10428729?iampartner=303&subid=umr3&ref=partner.jpc.de.
