Product Description

Auf der Alm (On the Mountain Pasture or On the Alp) is a small piece of music in a Laendler style, subtitled Idylle (Idyll), which Johann Strauss wrote for the birthday of his stepdaughter Alice, originally named "Ein Gstanzl vom Tanzl" (Gstanzl is a Bavarian- Austrian song form, regulary an epigram-like mocking song). The first performance was at a house ball to Alice's 19th birthday in 1894. Albert Schwarzmann arranged this piece for his farewell concert as conductor of the municipal band of Zirl in Tyrol, Austria after having directed this wind band for almost 24 years. The arranger made two versions, one in the original key of the composition, the second one half tone higher and using Flugelhorns for important passages instead of the original trumpets, as some sources reported performences with Flugelhorns. He performed the latter version on 6 April 2024 at cultural center "B4" in Zirl for the first time.
