Product Description
The interval of a sixth is used throughout this work, as an inner voice to the accompaniment, as the interval harmonizing the melody, and as the primary melodic interval. The piece has four sections, and a coda.
The opening theme has the melody in octaves, but with two hands. The second theme uses a contrasting key, F minor, and a contrasting melodic device, hemiola, to bridge to the third section. An accompaniment in triplets underpins a melody in sixths. A short fourth section, in the distant key of A major provides a quiet interlude to the finale and coda, reprising the opening theme at the bolder dynamic.
The spirit of Brahms inhabits this music, especially the later character pieces. Many of his works from his last years are advanced solo repertoire, and so I wish to not only honor the inspiration of the Master, one of the Three B's himself, but to provide a musical option that strives to capture the mood and scope of a late Brahms piece in an accessible and modern fashion. Approx duration 5 mins.
