Product Description
Ragtime as the name of a genre comes from the contraction of "ragged-time" or syncopation. This rhythmic etude has a structure that departs from the usual classic rag format. The opening theme, after the obligatory introduction, is in C major, and is repeated. Then, the next strain goes up a minor 3rd, to Eb major, but is not repeated. Then, a return to the opening music, through a transitional phrase that functions as a second introduction, which, as usual, is played only once. And on to the the finale, this time DOWN a minor 3rd, to A major, with a repeat, since I liked it so well, I thought it ought to be heard again!.
All the themes use chromatic changing tones in some fashion, with single-note, stop-time, and full octave bass patterns. Melodious and technically challenging, without being florid or intimidating. Approx. duration at suggested tempo is 3 mins, 15 secs. Pedal on the strong beats, and this piece gets to go ever so slightly faster than usual, it being an Etude, after all!
