Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald (Tales from the Vienna Woods) is a waltz sequence of five parts by Johann Strauss Jr. with the zither as a prominent solo instrument in the introduction and the coda. There are cue notes to enable also a performance without zither. The name of the waltz was intended to recall the dance's origins in Viennese folk music. It premiered on 19 June 1868 at a "novelty festival with fireworks" in Vienna conducted by the composer himself. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their "New Year's Concert" on 6 January 2010 at the "Grosses Festspielhaus" (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria.
