Product Description

Coleridge-Taylor's "Ballade", originally for orchestra, with its dramatic opening theme and subsequent passionate love theme translates well for both the power and tenderness available to a brass choir
. Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor, was an early 20th century English composer, conductor, and influential advocate for Black composers. Recommended by Edward Elgar, and commissioned by the Three Choirs Festival, a significant European choral festival, Coleridge-Taylor's "Ballade" received an enthusiastic premiere in 1898 with Sir Arthur Sullivan writing, "Much impressed by the lad's genius. . . The music is fresh and original - he has melody and harmony in abundance, and his scoring is brilliant and full of colour - at times luscious, rich and sensual . . . "

This brass choir arrangement is scored for four trumpets in B-flat, five horns, two tenor and one bass trombones, euphonium and tuba. Alternate C Trumpet and Eb Trumpet parts for the Trumpet 1 part are provided. An optional cut of one minute duration is available for directors looking for a slightly shorter performance but retaining the musicality of the work. Straight mutes are required for all 4 trumpet parts, all 5 horn parts and the 1st trombone part. The recording is of the entire edition.
