'A Winter's Tale' was written in 1982 by Mike Batt and Tim Rice for the singer David Essex. It was written as a Christmas song, but doesn't make any specific reference to the season. It peaked at No 2 in the UK Singles Chart in January 1983 and has been recorded by artists such as Michael Ball and The Moody Blues. In 2014 PRS for Music ranked it as the 34th best Christmas song.
