Kyle McKinzey, a seasoned band director with over 30 years of experience, has left an indelible mark on the world of music education. His passion for teaching and composing has resonated across East Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Kyle graduated from Henderson State University in 1982, where he honed his skills in percussion under the guidance of Doug DeMorrow. His conducting studies with Wendell Evanson and composition lessons with Dr. Bill Underwood shaped his musical foundation.

Throughout his career, Kyle has crafted numerous arrangements and original compositions. From marching bands to jazz ensembles, concert halls to church praise bands, his musical creativity knows no bounds.
Notably, he orchestrated a groundbreaking benefit performance for Zoe Ministries at Bass Hall in Fort Worth, Texas—a feat that involved coordinating the largest mass choir production ever seen in that iconic venue.
Performance Highlights:

Kyle’s talent extends beyond the classroom. As a percussionist, he has graced the stages of the Arkansas and South Arkansas Symphonies. Jazz enthusiasts may recognize him from his piano and drum performances with the Greenville Big Band Jazz Orchestra. He remains an integral part of the Mansfield Wind Symphony in Mansfield, Texas, and currently contributes his percussion skills to the Arlington Community Band.

Kyle’s dedication to music education is evident through his active membership in the Texas Music Educators Association, ASCAP, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. At home in Arlington, TX, he shares his life with his wife, Julie—a supportive partner who appreciates the rhythm of their shared journey. Kyle McKinzey’s legacy as an educator, composer, and performer continues to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
