Product Description

Suite Bergamasque was composed around 1890. It was then revised and published in 1905. The title is derived from the city of Bergamo in the Italian Alps and serves as a tribute to French Baroque harpsichordists. It is comprised of 4 movements: Prélude, Menuet, Clair de lune, and Passepied.

The passepied was a dance originating in Brittany. Debussys appreciation of the medieval practice of using open 4ths and 5ths is worked out eloquently in this very expressive movement.

It is scored by Richard Byrnes for Symphonic Band: (Picc, 2Fl, 2Ob, 2Bn, Cbn, 4Cl, 2BCl, 2ASx, TSx, BiSx, 4Hn, 3Cnt, 3Trom, 2Eu, 2Tu, Cb, Timp, BD, Bells, Hp, Celesta)

In addition to works by Debussy, we offer works by J.S. Bach, Brahms, Dvorák, Fauré, Glazounov, Glinka, Gottschalk, Granados, Griffes, Lotti, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Ravel, Richard Strauss, Turina, & Vierne.
