Product Description
Darkest Night Brightest Light is third in a series of compositions using this original technique I invented in the mid 90s. This is a composition technique I invented in the mid 90s for brass quintet and never attempted to use that technique for smaller instrumentations until now.
The technique involves using only one chord type at a time. Entire sections of the compositions all have a single chord type. For example, in Darkest Night Brightest Light the composition uses ONLY minor triads up until rehearsal mark C, 34 measures into the composition.
This is the third composition in my current "experimental" series. Its not a formal series. Im not publishing them as a series, but the idea is to write more experimental music for a while. I used to only ever write experimental music and this has been sort of a nostalgic process for me. Kind of like a home coming. Sort of.
I like the music Ive been writing lately, up until this experimental series. It is more wholesome and beautiful. And who doesnt like beautiful music? But it doesnt challenge me as much intellectually. So its nice to do some of this kind of more modern writing again.
