Urlicht is scored for Alto solo (vocal), accompanied by brass quintet and organ. The text of hope and faith comes from Des Knaben Wunderhorn and it is one of Mahler's most beautiful songs. The entire movement is quiet, simple and hymn-like. Urlicht is a perfect prelude to the Finale of Symphony #2, which is also available through Dorm 40 Music and Sheet Music Plus.
