This arrangement of the familiar hymn tune
BLESSINGS by E. O. Excell is written for one piano, four hands. The tune is typically associated with the lyrics by Johnson Oatman, Jr. titled
"Count Your Blessings, Name Them One by One." Though frequently used during the Thanksgiving holiday season, this cheerful melody can be used any time of year to remind the listeners of God's many blessings.
Beginning in the key of C major, the melody alternates between the two parts as the song progresses through the verse and chorus and then subtly changes to the key of D major while continuing to alternate the melody through another verse and chorus. Bright and energetic throughout, this piano duet is ideal for a postlude, offertory, or special music. Duration is about 2-1/2 minutes, however, it is easy to repeat from the key change if a slightly longer piece is needed.
