Arranged wind quintet with Clarinet in A, but alternative part provided for Bb clt)
The Carmen Suites are two suites of orchestral music drawn from the music of Georges Bizet's 1875 opera Carmen and compiled posthumously by his friend Ernest Guiraud. They adhere very closely to Bizet's orchestration.
- Séguedille: Act I, Seguidilla (Carmen's Aria): Près des remparts de Séville
- The beautiful gypsy, Carmen, sings it in an attempt to seduce her captor, the soldier Don José, into going with her to her friend Lillas Pastia's inn.
I have given the melody, mainly to the oboe, with a little help from flute and oboe.
The accompanying figure is shared between bassoon, horn, clarinet and flute.
