This traditional Russian song, also called "O, My Fields" is written from the perspective of a young soldier who proudly keeps his homeland safe from enemies. Those in the U.K. may remember Michael Palin (rather hilariously) singing the song with the Russian Pacific Fleet choir on the BBC T.V. programme "Full Circle with Michael Palin".
It begins very quietly and builds in complexity and volume through the song before finally dying away. The principal difficulty for non-Russian speakers will probably be the lyrics. I suggest that the lyrics of the first verse might be used throughout, or some other simplification - the song will still sound impressive!
I have classified it as intermediate but, lyrics aside, it is musically easier than most.
