I wrote this tune for halloween and put it on YouTube. Halloween was also my mothers birthday so this one is for my Mum. It is quite a happy tune and the reason being is that I don't think of October 31st as Halloween as much as it was my mother's birthday. Unfortunately she's no longer with us so I couldn't write something macabre for her so I kept it quite light. The reason behind the title 'The White Witch' is that when we were young me and my two brothers would joke with her that because of her birthday she must be a witch and she would smile and say 'yes but I'm a White Witch'. A White Witch in Britain and parts of Europe was nothing to do with the colour but they were traditionally thought to be good witches who practise magic for the greatest good of all and with harm to no-one. I'm sure we believed all this when we were young. Anyway my tune takes a more humorous look at Halloween.
It's written in a sort of gothic baroque stride piano style. I don't include dynamics, fingering or pedal markings as I prefer to leave these to the individual pianist. I keep the music as simple as possible for reading. I do include chord symbols which I find are often one of the most important pieces of information for learning and memorising tunes.
Please note this is a piano solo and doesn't include the other instruments contained on my YouTube recording. I write all my music as piano solos and they sound perfect as such with a full sound and not requiring other instrumentation.
