"Imvubu the Hippopotamus" is the sixth in a series of fifteen original contemporary compositions for piano, titled "15 Animal Compositions for Piano" and created to musically describe the movement and habits of specific wildlife creatures. From music notes to words: "Imvubu the hippopotamus dreams of being a beautiful ballerina, dancing as light as a feather to a quirky waltz while spinning around with graceful moves. Not quite succeeding, she catches the rhythm very seldom and falls around as her fat, voluptuous body continuously sways out of rhythm and out of control. Trying to add some Eastern touches to her performance, she manages to catch the rhythm for a few moments before losing it again. Hardheaded and strong-willed, she finishes her performance triumphantly and stretches her legs towards the sky, striking a graceful pose before lying down in the grass at the Sabi River."
