"Cooking with Sugar" was written for the award-winning Canadian classical piano duet Piano Pinnacle. Designed to be played by two classical pianists on one instrument, this piano four-hands work is intended to help introduce classical pianists to jazz playing, featuring several elements of traditional early 20th-century jazz piano music which have been strictly notated and taken out of their typically improvisatory context to help bridge the gap between classical and jazz playing. The work's title is inspired by the jazz idiom "put some sugar on that" (meaning "liven the music up a bit), and depicts a sugar rush followed by an eventual sugar "crash". Enjoy!
