Product Description

Kaleidoscope is a composition that embraces the character, beauty and color of dissonant intervals. When rotating a kaleidoscope, one sees different patterns emerge from the rearrangement of pieces of glass and beads. Thousands of unique patterns can be created from the same glass pieces, expressing a wide array of textures and moods. I used this as my inspiration for this piece, taking a dissonant, colorful motif and rearranging it via metric stress, dynamics, rhythm and transposition, giving each section a unique texture and musical personality. The timbre of the xylophone creates a whimsical, fun and inviting mood, reminiscent of my own days as a kid fascinated by the colors of a kaleidoscope.
