From the composer: Echo and Exclamation begins with a lush woodwind chorale, which is
then echoed (with variation) by the brass section. After a short bridge, the
theme is recapped by the whole ensemble. The Exclamation section is a
rousing march in Eb based on the earlier theme. The upper woodwinds/
brass and the low woodwinds/brass alternate melodic statements until
they join forces for a triumphant finale. This piece is designed to develop
stylistic versatility, dynamic contrast, and aural awareness in young intermediate
concert bands.
