Product Description

Born in 1873, Ethel Barns studied at the Watford School of Music and later at the Royal Academy of Music in London before becoming well known as a violinist-composer in the early 1900s. During her career Barns composed over 120 works comprising orchestral, chamber and vocal music; she was one of the most important female composers of the early twentieth century and to date her music has been performed at the Proms twenty times.

Humoresque is a short melodic work for violin and piano ideal as a recital piece or encore for intermediate to advance level student or professional performers. The work originally published in 1909, a recording of a historical performance by Yvonne Curti (violin) and Godefroy Andolfi (piano) is available on the Exton label.
