The idea of developing George Gershwin's An American in Paris was born, first of all, from concert needs: after a long research it did not appear that there was a version of the Gershwinian masterpiece for a four-hand piano duo. The main intent of the adaptation work was to maintain, on the one hand, the unmistakable style of the author, the humor, the rhythm, the rich and light symphonic breath at the same time, in a version aimed at exploiting the enormous possibilities expressive and virtuous, offered by the presence of the two performers on the keyboard. Then conceived as a concert piece, some changes were made, consisting of cuts in the transition sections, insertion of new fitting parts, and reworking of the symphonic material in a creative way, in order to recreate and translate orchestral situations on the keyboard complex, as well as giving the song a strong piano flavor.
