For 300 years (c1400-1700) the "diploma" for a viola da gamba player was to perform Variations on "La Folia", either own improvisations or someone else's composition.
Here I chose a selection of variations by Marais, varied - or better extended - to suit an unaccompanied performance. I also added a few own variations. For years this theme has stimulated me humming and playing away!
