Product Description

Sweet William is an English Country Dance tune that made its first appearance in the supplement to the 6th edition (6A) of Playford's Dancing Master, which was published in 1679. This tune is also known as The Bourrée. The structure is AA'BB'; the repeats are written out. I've arranged this tune as a duo and added optional ornaments and octave alterations, which is common performance practice for this dance music. The A theme is in the first part; the B theme begins in the first part but ends in the second part an octave higher. Sweet William can be played on two violins or flute (recorder) and violin. In the audio sample provided here, it is performed on tenor recorder and violin. Sweet William makes a beautiful and unique wedding processional and could combine effectively with other music from the Romantic Playford series. Sweet William will be enjoyed by the student seeking an interesting recital piece that is not out of reach for the young violinist.
