At first, I thought the Breton piece - Fontanella- referred to the fountains of
Brittany. However, after delving deeper into my research, I discovered that it is actually a song telling the story of Guy Éder de La Fontenelle, a historical Breton figure from the 16th century.
Born in 1573 into a noble Breton family, Guy Éder de La Fontenelle, also known as "Ar Bleiz" (the wolf in Breton), is known for his actions during the Wars of the League. Leading a troop of 400 horsemen, he carried out numerous campaigns of looting, massacres, and destruction across the Cornouaille and Trégor regions. Among his most notorious atrocities were the sackings of Penmarc'h and Pont-Croix, where thousands of people perished. He also turned Tristan Island, near Douarnenez, into a fortress, forcing the locals to demolish their own homes to strengthen his defenses. Eventually, after being pardoned by King Henry IV, he was accused of high treason and executed in 1602.
The song *Fontanella * tells the story of the abduction of Marie Le Chevoir de Coadélan, a wealthy heiress aged 8 or 9, by La Fontenelle. He is said to have taken her from the manor of Mézarnou in Plounéventer in 1595 and later married her.
