It is written in a conservative modern style with an abundance of parallel seventh chords and perfect fourth intervals. The piece begins with a lengthy introduction that incorporates snippets of the hymn tune, while rising from a pianissimo dynamic level to forte, and then receding back to a soft dynamic level. The mid-section boldly references the first and third phrases of the tune leading to a climax, followed by a concluding brief return to the style of the opening introduction. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.
