Product Description
This was completed in April 1987, slightly revised for publication in 1994 with
a few further revisions made for this recording by the Lochrian Ensemble in 2007.
The four movements follow the Classical pattern; the first movement,
Sostenuto - allegro is followed
by a scherzo (allegro molto, in 7/4), an adagio (also in 7/4) and a finale (allegro molto). The balance
of the movements, however, differs in that the first and last movements are
concertante movements for cello and first violin respectively;
the argument of the third movement is largely made up of a "love
duet" between the second violin and the viola, where the other two instruments have a mainly accompanying
rôle, and only the scherzo has an equal balance between the forces.
