This work was commissioned by Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, Vancouver, B.C. for Michael Ingham on the occasion of his appointment as Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster, B.C. in 1994.

The text is from The Unutterable Beauty a collection of poems by Geoffrey A. Studdert Kennedy (1883-1929). Minor changes were made to the original words to make Sursum Corda more consonant with current usage.
