Developed from a study of Sergei Prokofievs Classical Symphony in D Major, Opus 25, the Transformation Symphony was written as a tribute to Prokofievs style much as Prokofiev paid homage to the works of Joseph Haydn.
The
Transformation Symphony consists of four contrasting movements which include Dream (Allegro), Sacrifice (Larghetto), Perseverance (Minuet and Trio) and Metamorphosis (Rondo.)
Each movement can be defined as a progression from a dream to the
sacrifice that is needed to reach the dream to the perseverance needed to maintain the sacrifice to the metamorphosis that comes from
having achieved the dream. The composer includes a linear progression
in the four movements yet manages to also intertwine these elements
in the last movement to indicate that the creative process can be
both linear and interspersed.
