Product Description
Canticle of the Sun is a declaration of love and gratitude to our beautiful planet, to its creator
and all living beings that inhabit it. This piece comes from my first major, extended work, A Prayer for Mother Earth, that was premiered at the Carnegie Hall on May 28, 2016.
Canticle of the Sun is the most popular sacred poem of the Italian
literature, written in 1224 by Francis of Assisi. It is a prayer, a hymn of
thanksgiving and praise to God for the creation of the world.
"Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water;
she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure."
In this movement (which is the 3rd of five) the
orchestration is very delicate, the strings often playing pizzicato. The piano plays an important role,
introducing the principal theme that is later taken up by the voices.
The file contains the whole score and all the individual parts.
