Product Description
This original piano solo features a sense of adventure, with room for story-telling and imagery. Vayriel: Protector of the Mountains (Vayriels Theme) is inspired by one of the characters from the fantasy/sci-fi new adult novel, Trials of the Innermost by Jonathan Fuller & Kristina Kelly. The melody is based off each letter of her name. This is the first movement of the Etherea Suite, one of three character themes. Short and lyrical, it can be used as a nice recital piece, sight reading exercise, or played for fun. For piano teachers, this piece explores phrasing, pedaling, different articulation, expression marks, and creating a musical narrative through sound. Students can outline the simple ABA structure, and maybe find the melody memorable.
Also, older students can read the book and see if the character relates to the music! The other two movemens are Zinvar: Peacemaker of the Volcanic Rifts and Idrilia: Warrior of the Desert.
From co-author, Kristina Kelly: "Vayriel is protective of her family. Her magic is healing and growth rather than damage. She prefers alone time with her animal companion than with people. Shes contemplative and caring. A bit withdrawn before she knows you, then shes open to sharing and conversation. She had loss in her past but doesnt dwell on it."
If you enjoyed this piece or bought it for your student(s), please leave a review! Feedback is welcome. I'd enjoy connecting via social media or with performances of this piece youd like to share. Thank you. Instagram: @jwupiano | youtube.com/@JwuPiano
