Five Note Funk is designed to be a fun developmental piece for beginning concert bands. It is written in three part rhythmic counterpoint (melody, bass line, percussion). Each part in itself is very straightforward but also very independent from the others. When played as a whole, the students will be challenged to develop rhythmic independence and confidence - in other words, to GROOVE. One-finger trills are featured in the woodwind and high brass parts, and should be executed as quickly and cleanly as possible in order to develop finger dexterity. Body and vocal percussion are also featured at letter C for a little extra fun!
