Detailed Description:
Nocturne for piano in g minor composed by Romantic composer Fanny Mendelssohn. 19th century. German Romantic. Historic Women Composers. Classical Piano Repertoire for the intermediate beginner. Arranged by Cameron Smith.

This is an early intermediate level arrangement in the key of a minor and serves as an introduction to historic women composers of the Romantic period. 3/4 time signature. 17 measures. Right-hand melody, left-hand broken chord accompaniment. Eighth-notes, quarter-notes, dotted quarter-notes, half-notes and dotted half-notes.

Technique:
Broken chord accompaniment is introduced. Multiple hand positions are used. One accidental. There are also level 1, 2 and 4 arrangements of this piece available.

History:
This arrangement provides a long-awaited opportunity to introduce the very youngest pianist to melodies composed by women in the time period usually associated with the music of Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel is the older sister of the well-known composer Felix Mendelssohn. Often attributed to be a greater pianist than he, Hensel wrote many works for the piano, as well as some chamber music, cantatas, and oratorios. Due to the complications surrounding women composers at the time, much of her music was published under her brother's name.
