Dvorak wrote the 8 Slavonic Dances Op.72 in 1886, as a follow up to the hugely popular Slavonic Dances Op.48 written 8 years earlier in 1878. Although Dvorak was encouraged to use actual folk tunes of the era, each Dance is original, and written in the style of folk music from his own country, Czechoslovakia.
The popular Dance No.10 (No.2 from the later version), is scored here for Clarinet Quintet, and provides some lush harmonies, memorable melodies and some wonderful rhythmical swashbuckling between the Alto & Bass Clarinet!!
