Christmas a cappella choral anthem. SATB, with soprano descant. 4 minutes long.
Lyrics are based on Micah 5:2-5a, which makes this a useful choice for church choirs during Advent or in a "Lessons and Carols" service. Words are below.
Descant - an option would be to have it played by a flute or other instrument.
v. 1. From Bethlehem in Judah, a prophecy
foretold
Of One Who would rule Israel, Who
was from days of old.
This town, as unassuming and small
though it might be,
Would be a place of Sovereign grace
that changed all history.
v. 2. In Bethlehem in Judah, a favored family
grew.
The faith of Rahab saved her life and Boaz
married Ruth,
Gods former foes
converted by His most gracious hand.
This line produced a royal house; King
David ruled the land.
v. 3. In Bethlehem in Judah a virgin bore a Son.
Our God had come in human flesh. The curse
would be undone.
By grace the worlds salvation laid in a
manger bed.
The Bread of Life was nourished there
within the house of bread.*
v. 4. By Bethlehem in Judah, a field was filled
with grace
As shepherds watched the night sky shine
and saw an angels face.
"Dont be afraid," he told them, "My news
brings peace and joy.
A Savior has been born to you; Hes Marys
baby boy."
v. 5. From Bethlehem in Judah, redemption would
proceed,
For we have all been wandering souls, and
grace is what we need.
When standing strong, our Shepherd laid
down His life for sheep,
And we, His flock, securely dwell. This
One will be our peace.
*Bethlehem means "house of bread."
