Product Description

This is the most popular of all piano concertos in the classical repertoire. Composed by Edvard Grieg in 1868, it was the only concerto he ever completed. This 3rd Movement caps the concerto with exciting melodies and flourishes based on Norwegian Folk Music. The melodic middle sections sound that is uncharacteristically modern as if the piece were written a hundred years later. The composer was only 24 years old when this was written. Another interesting side note is that this was the very first piano concerto ever recorded. The recording was made by pianist Wilhelm Backhaus 1909 but was cut by almost 3 minutes in order to fit onto the wax discs at that time. In 1951, a soloist playing this work died suddenly as he was performing this work. This work has been used numerous times in movies, Broadway and television shows. It is extremely popular with audiences and arranged here for Concert Band. This piece is very popular with audiences of all kinds. 2016 Arrangement New Release
