Product Description

I never warmed up to Debussy's opera, "Pelléas et Mélisande."  But I was intrigued by the librettist and playwright Maurice Maeterlinck.  In my google search I discovered that he wrote poetry in his early career. There are two book of his symbolist poems: "Quinze Chansons" and "Serres Chaudes."   I did not find anything of interest in the former, but the 33 poems in Serres Chaudes were very colorful and evocative.  I found nine I liked and I put them together as a song cycle for soprano and piano.  The work is dedicated to Sarah Yanovitch.

1. Attente (Waiting)
2. Fauves las (Tired beasts)
3. Lassitude (Weariness)
4. Oraison (Prayer)
5. Reflets (Reflections)
6. Serre Chaude (Greenhouse)
7. Serre d'ennui (Greenhouse of boredom)
8. Ennui (Boredom)
9. Amen

Total duration: Ca. 26 minutes.
