This arrangement combines the 19th century American folk song "Shenandoah" or "Across the wide Missouri" with the Scottish folk song "Loch Lomond," thought to date from the mid-eighteenth century. These two songs share a plaintive, longing quality and a similar harmonic language. This arrangement is for 8 horns and is easily adapted for larger ensemble with appropriate doubling.
