J.S. Bach's great organ choral prelude 'Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele' (Adorn thyself, my soul, with gladness) (BWV 654) is music of rare spiritual inspiration and mystic beauty. Albert Schweitzer and Robert Schumann have both written about the prelude with enthusiasm. This arrangement could serve as a repertoire concert piece, a meditative church piece or simply one that any Bach lover would enjoy playing. This version has been kept as simple and as faithful to the original as possible - within the limitations of the complex polyphony and ornamentation translated to a piano I have added no 'romantic flourishes' as might have been the fashion in similar transcriptions of other Bach works made in the first half of the twentieth century. The duration is about seven minutes including the first half repeat, and about five without.
