Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) was one of the leading black composers from England during his time. His most famous work is "The Song of Hiawatha." He wrote 24 Negro Melodies, Op. 59 for piano solo. This movement, "Bamboula"
is the first one to be arranged for string orchestra. "Bamboula" was a lively syncopated dance the first appeared in the US in
New Orleans. Your students will love the lively rhythms and harmonies of this arrangement which is Grade 3.5 level. Approximate length is 2 1/2 minutes
