Product Description

This ragtime piano duo was originally written for a 5 piano ensemble - then re-arranged later for two pianos by the composer. The form is a typical ragtime form. It is in honor of Chief Niwot, of the Southern Arapahoe tribe whose winter campground was near Boulder Colorado in the mid-19th century. . Niwot, in their language, means left hand. He was left-handed, and several landmarks as well as a town bear his name. He was a very intelligent man - fluent in English as well as several tribal languages - and tried to navigate his people into a peaceful co-existence with the white people who were migrating to this area. Sadly, there is strong evidence that he died in the Sand Creek Massacre.
