A First Book of Twenty-Five Well-Known Tunes for Ukulele For Beginners
As a
professional teacher of guitar, bass and ukulele of more than twenty-five
years experience, it has often struck me that beginner ukulele players tend to
be taught chords rather than melodies. Theres much to be said for enjoying the
resonance of a chord, but many of my beginner pupils have loved playing tunes
which Ive usually arranged myself. Therefore, Ive decided to collect
twenty-five of these melodies and publish them in this collection.
The contents of this book are especially
suitable for beginners as:
·
All
the tunes are printed in notes and TAB
·
All
the tunes have chord symbols to be played by fellow pupils or a teacher
·
The
tunes are in large print. Its amazing how often teachers forget the difficulty
young beginners have in reading notes, and how often scores are presented in
tiny print (perhaps to save costs)
·
The melodies
are well-known and popular
·
Some
rhythms are simplified so that learners can concentrate on playing the
instrument, rather than deciphering a musicians code. Teachers can add
more-complex rhythms later should they wish
·
The
keys chosen are idiomatic and comfortable for the instrument
·
The
addition of TAB means that the tunes can be played on any size of ukulele,
without the need to transpose.
·
Chords
in brackets are either optional alternatives or reminders.

I have also written a humorous memoir of my
time living and working as a musician in rural France. It makes the perfect
gift for musicians. Its entitled Extracting Goats from Jean-Claudes Kitchen
and is available at Amazon.
Thank you, and I do hope you enjoy playing
these tunes as much as I have.
