Originally written for 1935 opera Porgy and Bess, Summertime is the most-recorded song of all-time. It has been covered by such stars as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Janis Joplin, and the song's lyrics were described by Stephen Sondheim as "the best lyrics in the musical theater."
