Product Description
Evening is a unique pair of beautiful songs, one for Right Hand alone and the other for Left Hand alone. They are Sketches of evening situations. Both are very slow as one unwinds and relaxes at the end of day. Evening Prayer in the Convent for RH is mostly homophonic invoking the Chorales and Hymns of the Convent. It is to be played 8va to create a soaring angelic sound. The harmony is close as the Sisters would sing together. Snowy Evening by the Fire for LH uses richer tighter chords to create the warmth of the fire and the warm feelings gathered that day. Within the homophonic structure individual voices have movement to give narrative to the days reminisces.
Both songs are written in three voices or parts. There are no large leaps common to much music for one hand, but the entire song stays mostly within an octave. Some chords need to span an octave or a ninth with the one hand.
These pieces develop technique in triads, one hand playing, multiple voices in one hand, inner voice movement with one hand, and more; but far from being etudes, each piece is a very expressive song that is different from most one hand songs.
Widely effective for personal expression, lessons, recital, or Lenten meditations.
3 minutes for each piece, 6 1/2 minutes for set
