Product Description
Here'a a barn burner that's got it all, and will keep your rhythm section workin'! Guter's arrangement of this classic tune from "The Music Man" is modeled after such great arrangements as those performed by The Singers Unlimited and The Hi-Lo's. Opening with a military snare drum cadence, the voices build in dramatic pyramid-fashion to the cut-time, march feel. The recurring introductory vamp figure builds in excitement and intensity, introducing the melody in a double-time swing feel. Mixed meter passages build suspense leading into subsequent sections and a dramatic harmonic resolution before the vamp recurs in the cut time march style.
Vocals provide harmonic backing to a bouncy written piano solo, written in the style of the great Neal Hefti, alternating between funky rock figures and a march. A vocal swing soli emerges, transitioning into a train groove in which vocalists can switch parts to emulate the classic Hi-Lo's sound! The final melodic statement is performed in a double-time swing feel, with mixed meter building suspense to the cut time march vamp. Following a snare drum cadence, a dramatic a cappella passage bursts into a final, tutti chord.
