Product Description
Voicing: a cappella SSATTB plus soloists (soprano & tenor)
Originally recorded and sung by the composer/arranger, Don Sebesky, for the CTI Records release Giant Box in 1973. An ethereal introduction sets the tone for the recurring soprano and tenor duet. Lush, contemporary harmonies accompany the duet, weaving through five key centers until all that remains is the introductory material reintroduced in a new key, and with spacey counterlines. Optional "antiphonal" parts (heard in demo at 12 second mark), notes (expanding voicing to SSAATTBB), and suggestions for doubling are provided for larger choirs, but these additional elements are not necessary for a successful performance. Recorded as the title track on Fly by the Riverside City College Vocal Jazz Ensemble and premiered at the University of North Texas/Addison Jazz Festival in 2006.
Beautiful, but very challenging!
*Demo performed and produced by Gerhard and Christine Guter
