Tafelmusik is a five movement 'divertimento' or 'cassation' as would have been written by a Kapellmeister at a minor German or Austrian noble's court for amusing the members of the court and guests during banquets and festivals. Mozart, Haydn, and even Beethoven in his youth in Bonn, wrote many works like this.

Tafelmusik is modelled upon one of Mozart's five distinctive divertimenti for 3 basset horns (or alto clarinet) KV 439 written for his friend, the clarinet virtuoso, Anton Stadler.

Important note: page 11 of the score should be overprinted with the next (unnumbered) page containing one music system to produce the correct format and give the correct pagination.
