Programme note:
'Singin' in the Rain' is a song with lyrics by Arthur Freed (1894 - 1973) and music by Nacio Herb Brown (1896 - 1964). Doris Eaton Travis first performed it in the 1929 revue 'The Hollywood Music Box Revue'. The song became a hit and was recorded by a number of artists, notably Cliff Edwards.
The song is a centrepiece of the 1952 musical film of the same name where it is performed by Gene Kelly. The Gene Kelly song recording was remixed in a pop version by the UK group Mint Royale in 2005 which subsequently went to number one in the UK singles chart in 2008.
