Mary Elizabeth Coleridge (1861 1907) was
a British novelist and poet who also wrote essays and reviews. 'At Dead of
Night' appeared in her collection of poems 'Fancy's Following' published in
1896 under the pseudonym Anodos.

The wind/brass instrumentation is
flexible. Examples of possible instrumentations are given below.
If a multiple-octave handbells set is
available play at a higher octave from rehearsal letter F.
The conductor may lengthen or shorten the
narrated sections at A, C and E, using the 3/4 bars to cue the ensemble before
B, D and F. All trills are to be performed as semitone trills beginning on the
written pitch.
