I HEARD THE BELLS ON CHRISTMAS DAY is a Christmas carol based on the 1863 poem Christmas Bells" by American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It was not until 1872 that the poem was set to music by John Baptiste Calkin, an English organist. It is written on a medium easy level for beginning string players in 3 part harmony with viola doubling 2nd violin and cello doubling string bass. In the event instrumentation is lacking this type of scoring will make your group sound fuller and give your players more confidence.
