This moving African-American spiritual is often associated with funerals and other occasions of longing for heaven. It's message is about preparation for heaven (think of "fix" in the sense of "prepare" rather than "repair'). And it is therefore especially appropriate during Lent and Advent. It has been recorded by artists as diverse as Queen Latifah and Bobby McFerrin. The song has been re-arranged from my previous high voice version, with a range from A4 to E5 (if sung by an alto) or A3 to E4 (if sung by a bass/baritone).
